This is a portrait of my intrepid neighbor, Tom Rankin, and his first grandchild. Tom’s the Director of the Duke Center for Documentary Studies, in addition to being the incumbent Mr. Jill McCorkle. All in all, between his photography and her novels/short stories, they vie for “The Talent Family” award in this small town (which is chock-a-block with writers and artists). On top of it all?…Jill and Tom are just lovely, friendly, down-to-earth folks. They raise goats, also, which is always a good sign.
