I rarely do a purely sentimental piece, but this is one.
When I was pubescing in upper East Tennessee (twenty miles south of where I’m staying with my brother), I was oddly (it seems to me, now) obsessed with Grieg. Hence, the attached link….which is the wistful introduction to the Lyric Pieces. And, yes, I practiced piano two hours per day,blahblahblah. People inevitably seem surprised…”Oh, wait! You play the piano?”.
That is an understatement, to say the least. In any case, I always nod politely, say that I did/do (emphasize the “did” to forestall further dumb questions), and steer the conversation elsewhere (while, as regularly happens to me at this age, I wonder if any of these people actually know anything about me).
Growing old is odd. Of course, this is the first time I’ve done it.
