Here’s a portrait which I’ve meant, for a long time, to finish.

I would never have become an “artist” if Suman hadn’t encouraged me to do so in my late twenties, by letting me do all of the ads for her Indian restaurant…..it became quite successful, and so did she.  I suppose I’ve done so, also…..but I do believe in giving credit where credit is due.
In any case, here’s my portrait of Suman (I’ve done it previously…for YEARS….in black and white, for the ads). I’m so happy to have discovered these new (for me, at least) German pastels.
Oh….for those who don’t know how to recognize such things?…..the woman has PERFECT shoulders…..utterly straight (perhaps that’s just a matter of posture, and her having come from a military and diplomatic Punjabi family, but I think it’s more than just that).
Suman will (I think) understand why I’m attaching this song (by Diane Birch) with the portrait….

Well, I passed the wishing well and I threw my penny in
Sent a prayer on up above that you would come my way again
Yeah, I’ve seen some better days and in each one you were there
Running circles through the graveyard throwing daisies in the air
Oh, oh, Valentino
Oh, oh, my tears don’t show
But oh, honey, they flow

Well, I crossed the lakes and mountains,
ended up in Hollywood
Playing piano in that pink hotel just like you said I would
I kept looking out my window hoping one day you would come
Going every shade of blue under that California sun
Oh, oh, Valentino Oh, oh, my tears don’t show
But oh honey they flow

So much for the promises So much for them daisy chains
Oh, why carry all those heavy dreams When the only one I really want is you ?
Oh, oh, Valentino Oh, oh, my tears don’t show But oh honey they flow
Oh, oh, Valentino Oh, oh, my tears don’t’ show But oh honey they flow Oh, honey they flow, flow, flow
