“In the Fields of Gold” (for Herve Mommeja-Marin)
Pencil, pastel, and watercolor
2014 (NFS)
Over all those years and many trips, we never spent more time in any city that it took to catch a train or rent a car to go out into the country….to either Perigord or Provence,
It is, indeed, beautiful and peaceful there, if you know where to go (and, of course, where/what to avoid….at least in Provence).
I was recently horrified to find that the jpg of this painting was lost…..not in my portfolio-file or on the website. A clever friend suggested, yesterday, that I simply search for the title in my old AOL mail. I’d never thought of that……duhhh. I’m deeply thrilled to have just found and saved it.
As for the title/song? I imagine that most of you will know Sting’s original recording, but do you know this version? As much as je loves Sting, I prefer Eva Cassidy’s hauntingly poignant cover. Go to:

“Fields Of Gold”
You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in the fields of gold
So she took her love
For to gaze awhile
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold
Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley?
We’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in the fields of gold…
See the west wind move, like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold
I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left
We’ll walk in the fields of gold
We’ll walk in the fields of gold
Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold
You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold.”
