(134/5 pages) Predictably enough, a number of these pieces originated as “illustrations”. I’m not particularly distressed over my chronic failure to maintain a distinction between the two categories, although it’s provided a number of critics with fodder for discussion.
I’m fortunate in that, these days, I quite contentedly don’t have to worry about the distinction between “FINE ART” and “illustration/commercial art”. In any case, most of those pictures that I’ve placed in this section are those done specifically for gallery shows. Of course, gallery owners have always and immediately slapped price-tags on them, which to me seems a markedly “commercial” thing to do.
I keep thinking that maybe I should just label the section “Fairly Good Art” and, just perhaps, do my little part for The Federal Defense Against Homeland Pretentiousness.
